Flooded roads make rain a pain

CHANDIGARH: The sudden rain on Saturday led to waterlogging around roundabouts, internal and outer roads of the city and low-line areas. Areas around roundabouts on crucial roads like Madhya Marg, Jan Marg and Himalaya Marg were affected. It took half an hour to drain the water. Besides, both residential and commercial areas of sectors 37, 38, 45, 46, 48, 19, 7 and 9 were also waterlogged. The southern sectors were the worst affected. "I was on the way to my relative's house in Manimajra but my two-wheeler got stuck in the water near Matka Chowk," said Amit Kumar, a resident of Sector 15. Earlier, the MC authority had boasted that they had cleaned road gullies and drainage in the city and simultaneously constituted various teams, who would be present throughout the city during the rainy season. But the rain has belied the claims.

MAPUSA: A two-year-old boy met a watery grave after he drowned in a hotel's swimming pool in Parra on October 20. Police officials said a group of families had come to the state on a vacation from Bangalore and were staying in a hotel at Parra. Sources said there were 17 children in the group. While some of the families were relaxing in the hotel on Sunday, the two-year-old fell into the pool unnoticed and drowned. On noticing their son's absence, the parents began a frantic search for him, only to find his body in the pool. MCG is to set up sewage and effluent treatment plant in villages of GURGAON

GURGAON: MCG is now going to install a low-capacity sewage treatment plant (STP) and effluent treatment plant (ETP) in every village that comes under its jurisdiction. The existing STP plant and ETP plant are not able to handle the load that’s why the new plan is being formulated to setup sewage treatment plant for each and every village and the cost for this is also being discussed. The MCG had already come under severe criticism for failing to increase the capacity of the existing plant. The untreated sewage is now flowing into the Yamuna River. Sewage flowing on Ayodhya Nagar road

Nagpur:  People staying in Dattatray Nagar, a part of Ayodhya Nagar in South Nagpur, are fearing outbreak of vector-borne diseases in their area. The area is grappling with mosquito menace and hygiene issues due to overflowing   sewage   for the last 4-5 days, highlighting negligence of Nagpur Municipal Corporation in ensuring quality work from private contractors. A resident of Ayodhya Nagar, New Subedar road Vijay Bhaturkar told TOI that they are mainly worried about the students of NMC Dattatray Nagar School in the locality. "NMC laid new sewage line in our locality. However, instead of flowing underground, the sewage started overflowing on the road from chambers. The overflow starts in the morning, submerging the road. This is happening for the last four-five days and nobody from NMC is paying attention," he said.
