Groundwater Survey and Development Agency’s trenches, wells help region’s water requirement
AURANGABAD: The Groundwater Survey and Development Agency (GSDA) has succeeded in digging around 100 trenches and wells across four districts of Marathwada to supply pure drinking water. The activity was carried out in the four worst-affected districts of the region, namely Jalna, Aurangabad, Beed and Osmanabad, said Irfan Shah of the GSDA. Shah said that these trenches were dug over the dry water sources such as dams and rivers. "Digging trenches and wells at these places helped to procure water at a mere 10 metres (30 ft) which proved to be a cost effective solution," Shah added. He further said that these trenches supplied water through tankers to the nearby talukas. About 10 lakh people from every district were benefited through the efforts. "Earlier the population was dependent on borewells," Shah said.
