PCMC to set up lab to test water samples from Pavana

PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will set up a laboratory to regularly test water samples from the Pavana river and nullahs to monitor pollution level and submit reports to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) for further action. The laboratory will also monitor solid waste, air, sound and soil pollution levels within the municipal limits. A proposal with instructions from the municipal commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi will be tabled at the standing committee meeting on June 4, to streamline data collection. Earlier in November 15, 2011, the Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority had directed the civic body to take water samples from Pavana dam and Pavana river at Khadde, Thugaon, Bebedohol, Godumbre, Gahunje, Shivane, Ravet bund and other locations and test them at the MPCB laboratory or any other laboratory certified by the board. Report on water release to Ujani dam today

PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation's (PCMC) water supply department will submit a detailed report to municipal commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi on Tuesday on the issue of release of water from Pavana dam to Ujani dam in the drought-hit Solapur district. This was after the state government had asked the PCMC to provide its opinion on the release of water to Ujani dam. M T Kamble, officiating city engineer and chief of PCMC water supply department, said, "The civic body received an e-mail last Friday from the state government to give its opinion to Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority (MWRRA) on or before May 14 about the release of water from Pavana dam to Ujani dam." "A detailed report will be tabled before municipal commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi tomorrow (Tuesday). Tankers to get water after swiping cards

PUNE: The water supply department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will be implementing a pre-paid card system to keep accurate record of the quantum of water supplied to tanker operators. The move   follows demands by civic activists that the corporation should have accurate records of water supplied from the PCMC storage reservoirs to the tanker operators. Some activists had suggested that water meters be installed at each reservoir to keep track of water supply. The corporation had also appointed contractors, who would provide water by tankers to areas with inadequate supply. Executive engineer of the water supply department, Sharad Jadhav, said, "The tanker operators will be provided with pre-paid cards up to a certain amount. They will be asked to swipe at the storage reservoirs to fill tankers. The corporation will install reading devices at every filling reservoir. Once they have swiped, the amount will be deducted from the card and the operator will
