Sewage plants to generate electricity power

RAJKOT: Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has designed a project in which electricity will be generated through methane gas emanating out of sewage treatment plants proposed to be set up at Raiyadhar and Bedigam.

RMC commissioner Ajay Bhadoo told reporters that the plants in Raiyadhar and Bedigam will be of the capacity of 56 MLD and 76 MLD respectively.

HYDERABAD : The recent spate of moderate to heavy rains in the city may have boosted the groundwater levels by at least half a metre, but a new report reveals that the water thus recharged is highly contaminated with fluorides, nitrates and large quantities of iron. A report on the state's groundwater profile by the Central Groundwater Board (CGWB) says harmful chemicals are present in the water beyond the permissible limits. "It is bad news for the people as the report mentions a rise in the nitrate levels in the water. The basic source of nitrates in water sources is from sewerage , which seeps from improperly built septic tanks," Dr Shakeel Ahmed, chief scientist, National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), told TOI. Erode may soon get effluent treatment plant

COIMBATORE: In an attempt to prevent river Cauvery going the Noyyal way, the state government is planning to explore the possibility of replicating the zero liquid discharge formula and Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for the dyeing and bleaching units functioning in Erode. State minister for Environment and Pollution Control, Thoppu ND Venkatachalam, reviewed the situation in Erode and Namakkal districts on Sunday morning along with senior officials from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and respective district administrations. As of now, they are floating a proposal for the installation of a CETP in Erode and another one along Komarapalayam and Pallipalayam near Namakkal district.
