200 tankers fail to solve water woes

CHANDIGARH: The severe water crisis engulfing Chandigarh and Mohali on Tuesday forced residents to rely on tankers with more than 200 of them being pressed into service, but they too fell short of providing any relief.

As work continued to rectify pipelines at Kajauli water works, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation sent around 50 tankers, while an equal number was used in Mohali. But the arrangements were not adequate as almost 100 more private tankers sold water to residents of both the cities.

"A private tanker is costing us Rs 600 and more. We were forced to call them as we had no other option," said R P Sharma, a resident of Sector 34.
