18 villages and colonies will get canal water

CHANDIGARH: Following a detailed study of areas in the city, the municipal corporation's engineering wing has resolved to supply Kajauli canal water to over one-and-a-half dozen villages and colonies having a population between 1.5 and 2 lakh. The study suggested that direct canal supply would be a better means to balance the existing water supply in these areas.

Following its study report, MC has proposed to connect Dhanas village, Sarangpur adjoining colonies, institutional areas with the existing water works situated in Sector 39. Village Khuda Lahora and Khuda Jassu have been proposed to be connected to the water works, situated in Sector 12. Village Khuda Ali Sher and Kamibwala have been proposed to be connected with the existing distribution line near capitol complex.

The report further proposed connecting villages Kishangarh and IT Park with the existing main line near IT Park, and village Raipur Kalan, Mauli Jagran and adjoining colonies with water works situated in Manimajra area. Lastly, Makhan Majra, Raipu Khurd, Behlana would be connected with water works situated in Sector 32.

Pollution control board directs meat complex to repair effluent treatment plant

PANAJI: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) on Monday directed the Goa Meat Complex to repair the existing effluent treatment plant (ETP), which treats the waste water generated by the meat complex while slaughtering animals. The board also said that failure to comply with the directions will force the GSPCB to withdraw the consent to operate under the Water Act. The GSPCB held a personal hearing with a representative of the meat complex. Board members highlighted the findings of the inspection report which stated that the ETP is not functioning. Speaking to TOI, GSPCB chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said that the inspection report states that the chemical oxygen limit has increased to 2,500 mg/litre against the permissible limit of 250 mg/litre. "It is ten times higher than the permissible limit," he added. He also said that bio-chemical oxygen limit has gone up to 850 mg/litre against the permissible limit of 30mg/liter. Water level rise in reservoirs of Kerala

With the heavy rain in the recent days Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has seen a rise in level of water in reservoirs by 2 percent raising the toll from 72% to 74%. As the water level increased, it made possible to produce from 2,985.2 mu (million unit) of electricity on the first day to 3,045.231 mu on the third day with the rising trend on 4 th day too. It is observed for the first time that the water storage level has risen to the extent that the Pampa and Kakki reservoirs has seen the rise in water level by 5 percent within a single day. Even the Kundal reservoir was operated at its full capacity and the Sholayar dam saw a rose by 1 percent. Even the Mullaperiyar dam saw a drastic rise in water storage on a single day with 128 ft which was 121.7 ft two days earlier.
