'Flexible entry in open varsities allows everyone to study'

To grow in life, each individual should be ready to keep herself or himself abreast with the latest knowledge and technology. 'Life long learning' is the success secret for 21st century youth. There are many avenues for achieving this, with the open university being one such important institution which helps you to study whatever you want, in a flexible manner. If you decide to have a career in a particular field, then start looking out for related courses, you can join an open university and get thorough knowledge of that field. The 21st century youth are well advanced in their career planning and they decide their path during Std X studies. For those who get very good marks in Std X, admissions are available to their desired courses. But for others, who do not get their expected marks in Std X or for those who are financially or socially restricted, there is no need to be worried. If one way is closed, there are other ways open for you to achieve your target. Open university is one way to help you reach your target in life. It has a flexible entry for all with a desire to study further. Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) is a national university with a regional centre at Nagpur. There are many courses in Ignou with Std X class as entry qualification (in some cases minimum 18 years and a preparatory course has to be completed). Some of them are certificates in information technology, visual arts and other performing arts, sericulture, organic farming, poultry farming, water harvesting and management, certificate in teaching of primary mathematics and certificate in food and nutrition etc. Certificate in home based health care is one such unique course with 10th pass qualification, which has ensured 100% placement for all those who successfully completed the course. In Std X, there are some students who are brilliant in one subject, say social studies or Hindi, but are scared of another subject. Out of fear or dislike, they cannot complete their 10th class, thereby abruptly ending their higher education aspirations. For such students, open universities offer an alternative way in the form of Bachelors Preparatory Programme (BPP), through which they can study up for graduation, post-graduation and even PhD.
