NEW DELHI: The Yamuna, which has been reduced to being just a drain, transforms during the rains into a raging, menacing river. 1978 | The Yamuna touched 207.49m on September 5 after 7 lakh cusec water was released upstream. Large parts of west, north and east Delhi, including Shalimar Bagh, Model Town and Mukherjee Nagar, were under 4-5 feet of water. It remains Delhi's worst flood to date. 1988 | Continuous torrential rain in the hills from September 21 raised the Yamuna's level from to 206.92m at the Old Railway Bridge. Many areas in east and north Delhi, including Mukherjee Nagar, Geeta Colony, Yamuna Bazaar and Red Fort were affected. 1995 | In Sept, river touched 206.93m. While release from Tajewala was massive, Delhi didn't let out water from Okhla barrage fast enough. Around 15,000 families lived in temporary shelters on main road for two months 2010 | Towards the end of September, the Yamuna rose to 207.11m and stayed at that level for eight hours. Areas like Kashmere Gate, Batla House, parts of Ring Road, Jaitpur and Majnu Ka Tila were flooded. Back flow from sewers submerged hundreds of houses in low areas.

NEW DELHI: If you recently paid your water bills online, your money may have landed in the pockets of cyber crooks. The Delhi Jal Board has lodged a complaint against a fake department website, very similar to the real one, that may have been used to dupe consumers. A source said that the fake website was blocked after DJB's chief engineer approached the crime branch. The team of cyber cell experts is investigating the case and an FIR under the information technology (66A) Act has been registered, a senior police officer said. The fake website, www.delhijalboard .in, looks remarkably like the original website. The crooks have also managed to forge the home ministry and Delhi government logos, police sources said. Pollution control board directs meat complex to repair effluent treatment plant

PANAJI: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) on Monday directed the Goa Meat Complex to repair the existing effluent treatment plant (ETP), which treats the waste water generated by the meat complex while slaughtering animals. The board also said that failure to comply with the directions will force the GSPCB to withdraw the consent to operate under the Water Act. The GSPCB held a personal hearing with a representative of the meat complex. Board members highlighted the findings of the inspection report which stated that the ETP is not functioning. Speaking to TOI, GSPCB chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said that the inspection report states that the chemical oxygen limit has increased to 2,500 mg/litre against the permissible limit of 250 mg/litre. "It is ten times higher than the permissible limit," he added. He also said that bio-chemical oxygen limit has gone up to 850 mg/litre against the permissible limit of 30mg/liter. Water level rise in reservoirs of Kerala

With the heavy rain in the recent days Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has seen a rise in level of water in reservoirs by 2 percent raising the toll from 72% to 74%. As the water level increased, it made possible to produce from 2,985.2 mu (million unit) of electricity on the first day to 3,045.231 mu on the third day with the rising trend on 4 th day too. It is observed for the first time that the water storage level has risen to the extent that the Pampa and Kakki reservoirs has seen the rise in water level by 5 percent within a single day. Even the Kundal reservoir was operated at its full capacity and the Sholayar dam saw a rose by 1 percent. Even the Mullaperiyar dam saw a drastic rise in water storage on a single day with 128 ft which was 121.7 ft two days earlier.
